How is this different from proofreading?
Proofreading corrects the surface: spelling, grammar, punctuation and citation format. Editing + Proofreading also improves how the manuscript reads: sentence structure, clarity, coherence between sections, discipline wording and overall academic tone, plus a full 1:1 cross-check of citations against the reference list.
Will the editor rewrite my arguments?
No. Editing improves how your argument is expressed, never what it claims. Where a passage is ambiguous, the editor rephrases for clarity and leaves a margin comment so you can confirm the intended meaning.
What does the citation cross-check include?
Every in-text citation is checked against the reference list and every reference against the text. Orphan references get an in-text citation inserted at the right spot, missing references are flagged, and everything is formatted to your target style.
Which style guides do you support?

Will professional editing improve my chances of journal acceptance?

What does substantive academic editing include that grammar tools miss?
Grammar tools flag patterns; an editor reads meaning. That covers restructuring paragraphs so the argument builds logically, replacing vague verbs with discipline-standard terminology, smoothing transitions between sections, tightening redundant passages, aligning tense and voice across chapters, and checking that every claim connects to the evidence cited for it. None of that is detectable by pattern matching, which is why journals still recommend professional human editing.
Can you edit to my target journal's author guidelines?
Yes. Attach the guidelines or name the journal in your request and the editor applies its conventions throughout: US or UK spelling, citation style (APA, MLA, IEEE, Harvard, Chicago, Vancouver or house style), heading structure, abstract limits and reference formatting. If the journal has quirks such as en-dash number ranges or specific abbreviation rules, those are applied as part of the same pass.
