ProofreaderPro.ai was born from a simple frustration: existing AI writing tools don't understand academic writing.
The Problem We Lived
We are a group of academic researchers — PhD candidates, postdocs, and journal reviewers — who spent years wrestling with the same problem. Every time we ran our manuscripts through tools like Grammarly or QuillBot, something broke.
Citations got mangled. An in-text reference like "(Smith et al., 2023)" would be "corrected" to something unrecognizable. Technical terms were replaced — "polymerase chain reaction" became "polymer chain reaction," and "in vivo" was flagged as a grammar error. The academic tone was stripped away, replaced with conversational language that no peer reviewer would accept.
These tools were built for blog posts, marketing copy, and business emails. Not for a researcher polishing a manuscript at 2 AM before a journal deadline.
