Will it change anything besides voice?

No. Each conversion touches the verb and the subject and object positions of that clause, nothing else: your vocabulary, facts, hedges and citations stay exactly as written. Every change is listed with before and after, so you can see precisely what moved.

Passive voice: when it hurts, when it belongs, and how conversion works

Passive voice is a grammatical tool, not a flaw. It moves the receiver of an action into the spotlight and lets the doer recede, which is sometimes exactly right and sometimes a problem. The trouble starts when the passive hides information the reader needs (who decided? who funded it? who made the mistake?), or when passive stacking makes a paragraph read like it happened to nobody. An active sentence puts its actor in subject position. The first two clauses carry theirs in by-phrases, so conversion is a reorder; the third supplies no actor, so there is nothing to build the active clause around.

How do I recognize passive voice?

The pattern is a form of to be plus a past participle: was completed, were coded, has been shown, is being reviewed. The doer either trails behind in a by-phrase (was completed by respondents) or disappears entirely (mistakes were made). Active voice puts the doer up front: respondents completed the survey. The converter finds the pattern wherever it appears, including the has-been and being forms that are easy to miss.

Is passive voice always wrong?

No. Methods sections conventionally use the passive because the procedure matters more than who performed it: samples were collected at 18 sites is standard prose in most journals.
